Barcis was my home for two years while I was stationed
at Aviano Air Base, Italy. It still ranks as my favorite place as it is nestled on Lago de Barcis (Lake Barcis) and in the
Southern most edge of the Alps mountain range. I only have two pictures here with me in Baghdad. I will upload more when
I return to Indiana.

As I said above, I love Barcis and plan on visiting again this spring. The city sits 1,350 feet above sea level, but
is less than two hours from Venice, which sits below sea level. I had to drive through a series of three tunnels to get to
and from Aviano Air Base, so I litterally drove through a small mountain to get to work. The lake itself is a man-made reservoir
with a dam on one end. Barcis is home to about 500 Italians, but grows to thousands during vacation season and weekends during
the summer. And, the farther North you drive, the bigger the Alps get. A thirty minute drive North and you are smack in the
middle of the breath-taking jagged top Alps that you see in pictures.

This is a picture of my old Chevy Blazer that I took to Italy with me. Note the landscape and mountains. Now you know
why I loved this city.
