The Tomahawk Building is located close to the Pyramid Building. We call it Tomahawk because several Tomahawk missles blasted away at the structure at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

TOMAHAWK BUILDING

The Tomahawk Building was part of the Finance Minister's complex before Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the U.S. Army invaded Baghdad, it became part of a Forward Operating Base in the Green Zone, now called the International Zone. Several Tomahawk cruise missles blasted the huge building on the first night of the war, and now the insides stand as ruins.

INSIDE OUT

The building shook so hard during the bombing that the outside of the building literally fell off in places.

UNDAMAGED TILE

While the columns may have fallen, the blue tile over the entry-way remained untouched.
