Memorial Gymnasium may have been the Home of the Kats for more than 50 years, but
it was not the first house to hold court for the Red and Blue faithful. Below you will find a list of when and where the Wildkats
played hoops in Kokomo.
1903-1904
KOKOMO HIGH SCHOOL
This was an un-named facility, and records do not show if this facility
was a gymnasium or recreation room or what. Many schools during this time-period played in lunchrooms or cafeterias.
1904-????
ALHAMBRA SKATING RINK
It is unknown when the Wildkats stopped playing at this facility, or where (if any) they played
next.
1913-1916
KOKOMO YMCA
The start year at the Kokomo YMCA is an estimate based on previous news stories and yearbooks.
1916-1924
KOKOMO HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM
The Kats outgrew this facility rapidly after having early success with the basketball program.
1924-1944
HAWORTH GYMNASIUM
Named for the famed Kokomo educator. The 2,572-seat gym burnt down days after Kokomo lost
to Evansville Bosse in Indianapolis in the 1944 state title game.
1944-1949
KOKOMO NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY
This was a temporary headquarters while the Kats planned and built a new home. The facility
was much too small for the rapidly growing fan-base. In fact, during the final campaign at the Armory, most games were played
on the road and the Wildkats traveled in excess of 1,400 miles.
1949-current
MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM
The facility was built with 7,000 seats, and includes a War Memorial Room. It has stood the
test of time for more than 50-years, and through refurbishments, still has more than 4,500-seats and numerous championship
banners towering over the court -- including Kokomo's only boys basketball championship in 1961.
